The Difference between Nadvirna and Berezhany en Route to... (L'viv - 4412 km)

(L'viv, 19.10.2013 - 20.10.2013) Keeping in mind the depressing experience at the Nadvirna Jewish Cemetery, I was in two minds as whether I should go or not to my next destination: Berezhany, a small town in the Ternopil Oblast, where again I identified Hausthor's (my initial family name) in the civil registry. Similar to Nadvirna, no more Jewish life, but here at least the deceased are resting in peace and above all they have a spectacular view over the city.

The Berezhany Jewish Cemetery lives in "peaceful coexistence" with its neighbors and so does the old synagogue. Today a ruin, it's - according to the plaque - from the 16th century and one can see or even feel its splendor of bygone times.

A young man facilitated the access to the temple and another neighbor, a most friendly lady, didn't let me go without offering two handfuls of apples as present and provisions for the journey. I'm not corruptible, but what a difference between Nadvirna and Berezhany! I'm satisfied, that I didn't pass over Berezhany and for sure I'll be back sometime...
