(Edirne, 30.08.2018 - 31.08.2018) I crossed already
"The Invisible [East/West] Border Between Trabzon and Samsun" a few days ago, but crossing the Bosporus from Asia to Europe was even more significant. In 2015, when the
Grand Synagogue of Edirne was reopened after more than three decades of decay, the Municipality of Edirne hung a banner in the street of the synagogue and greeted the guests with the words "Welcome home, our old neighbors!". Additional evidence needed?
In Edirne the approach to minority religions seems to be very much in line with handling of ethnical diversity. Strolling through the old city of Edirne I heard - besides Turkish - Bulgarian, Greek, Romanian, Romanes and several other languages, which I couldn't definitely identify.
As mentioned earlier: Welcome home, our old - AND NEW - neighbors!" From now on to steer due north.
