Victory vs. Heroes’ vs. Europe Day in Chișinău (3,027 km)

(2022-05-09/10) May 9, 2022 in Chișinău, the capital of the Republic of Moldova. For some it is Victory Day, for others it is Heroes' Day, for others it is Europe Day. Simplistically, older people socialized in the Soviet Union see it as the victory over Nazi Germany 77 years ago, more nationalist-minded people - in line with the official position - commemorate the victims of the Second World War, while the youth and the liberal intelligentsia see it as affliation to Europe and the EU. This division runs through Moldovan society, but also through individual families.











The Circus Building in Chișinău is one of the two objects listed as Brutalist Architecture and known worldwide:

At the edge of the building we once again meet war refugees from Ukraine, mostly women and children. Irina, like the vast majority here, comes from Odessa and is happy for any help, as costs have risen here as well. She finds the care provided by government agencies and NGO's very good. Arnold comes from Zwolle in the Netherlands and helps as a official of the International Red Cross / Red Crescent, while Garth from Toroto is part of the team of the Canadian NGO GlobalMedic.
